continuing my way down...

I am so inspired here. New York has so much to draw from. Brandon pointed out that even the man grabbing trash in the subway looked like he tried to put himself together. It's so refreshing to be here. ahhh...
As for everything thats been going on:
On monday I woke up ready ready to go. After all the subway rides and walking(in heels) from Brooklyn to Manhattan. My poor feet and me were beat. I was struggling to stay awake during the demo in class. I had to drink a cup of tea and force myself to pay attention and keep my eyes open. I was beyond thankful for lunch time. We went to Manganas and had chicken tomatillo enchiladas... which I have been craving since Brent made them last.

With new energy and a happy tummy I went back in ready to rock. Thomas was all sorts of helpful taking his time to explain the cut in detail. I had chosen a very difficult cut for my hands on. I was trying to learn something different for my clients, an undercut bob with some shattered layers. Very commercial but technically advanced. I got so frustrated and uncomfortable attempting perfection I choked up tears while I was packing up my shears. I know silly but I couldn't help it.

Retail therapy was needed! We searched for these amazingly plain and tall rain boots with no luck and LOTS of rain. We did however find Uniqlo!! Brandon picked up some great jeans in the little time we had to look(we were headed to trivia night with friends)
Trivia was fun and eventful. We were able to easily name 10 birthstones and took 3rd... if it wasn't for jokers and san palo I know we would have won;)
At about midnight we headed to 34th street to see elephants!
Even though they didn't show till a quarter after one. We were beginning to wonder if it was all a lie. Garrett entertained us by imitating elephants but it just wasn't the same... sorry Garrett. Just when we were getting a little too restless they showed!!
Apparently the train that brings in the elephants for the circus can't fit in the tunnel so they have to walk the elephants all the way down 34th. It was so much fun and cute. They held each other by grasping their trunks to the other tail. I had so much fun I even forgot about my hurting, wet feet... for a moment(remember the heels) I had been running around NYC in heels since 7:45am and at that point it was sometime past one in the morning! I was proud.

On tuesday I was a little smarter and wore a low heel. I was however more exhausted this morning than monday. I decided to take up Brandon's offer and order a latte. Which was quite a big deal considering I don't do coffee. It was the weirdest feeling after I downed my latte, I can only explain it as literally filling my brain wake up. Like the sensation of relief and awkwardness you feel after you regain feeling in your foot when it falls asleep but in your skull.
Naturally I was on it when it came time for demos that morning making my hands on portion much easier. Berry helped me replicate her colour technique. Then afterwards Thomas helped me understand a cut I love but can never execute well. This time my hands on was still uncomfortable but in place of frustration I had light bulbs.  James, Berry and Thomas stretched me and helped me get pumped to go back into the salon.

With such a full week already Brandon and I decided to keep it low key. We shopped more after class. I picked up some much needed sneakers. My first pair since high school I believe. They're orange high tops;) Then heading back to Brooklyn and were welcomed by texas mac and cheese. I love my temporary roommates/clients/new best buds and they're pull-out couch.

Adventures in NYC... and getting there.

It's late and I'm beyond exhausted but I can't not write down this nonsensical day for fear of it leaving me... or apathy to set in.

We're(Brandon and I) all ready to leave on this first day of "spring" from Kansas City to NYC with a layover in Chi town. It's already snowing our flights a little delayed but still promised to be on time. I start reading Through the Looking Glass to pass the time and prepare for our wonderland themed First Friday event. We finally take off an hour late with sure promises that we'll make our connection. We didn't.
After chaos and way too much confusion I'm handed two tickets to long island for tomorrow morning and told the cots will be put out in A terminal(which we found out later were actually in C). I begin to wonder when the red queen is going to make her appearance because so far Alice and I seem to have a lot in common.
Some nice super chicago police officer told us how to get out of the airport and find food. We had an awesome bartender who served "ultimate" drinks and had a piercing on her cheek(see picture) Brandon began to relax after our little trip and then the red trolly took us back to midway airport so we could sleep on our lovely accommodations(see pictures\/)
4AM! someone shakes my cot telling me everybody has to get up! Really.. after lingering our plane takes off at 8 lands in Islip/long island at 11 then we run to catch a train.(no need to get baggage cause they said I had to go to a different airport and pick them up)
An hour and a half later I'm at Penn station finding my way to the TIGI Academy... Finally.
30 minutes of subway craziness and walking we get there. Hallelujah!
I was able to do some hands on colour training with the fabulous Berry Bachen. It was really fun and interesting. Brandon assisted and was a great teacher. I can't wait for my full day of class tomorrow!
now time for sleep.

ps I got my bags and my clothes were wet... but it's all good my way to generous host have a washer and dryer;)
